Moving to Pompano Beach: A Local Mover's Guide to the Neighborhoods

Pompano Beach is home for us. We're a two-man moving crew based right here, so a lot of our week is spent going up and down Federal Highway, A1A and Atlantic Boulevard. If you're thinking about moving to Pompano, or just moving across town, here's the honest local version of what to expect.

I'm Kyle, one of the two guys behind Miles Above Moving. This isn't a real estate pitch. It's what we've learned from loading and unloading trucks all over town.

Pompano Beach in a nutshell

Pompano sits in northeast Broward County, between Deerfield Beach to the north and Lighthouse Point and Fort Lauderdale to the south. I-95 and the Turnpike both run through it, so you can get to Boca or downtown Fort Lauderdale pretty quickly when traffic cooperates.

What surprises people is how different one side of town is from the other. Within a few miles you go from beach condo towers to single-family neighborhoods to golf communities. Each one moves differently.

The beach side (east of Federal Highway)

This is the part of Pompano most people picture: condo buildings along A1A and Ocean Boulevard, the pier, and streets that back up to the Intracoastal.

What to know for a move here:

  • Most buildings have move rules. Expect to reserve the service elevator, stick to set move hours, and in many buildings, send paperwork to the manager ahead of time. Ask early. Our condo and HOA move rules guide has a list of questions to ask.
  • Parking is tight. A 16-foot box truck usually can't go into a parking garage. Find out where the building wants trucks to load, whether that's a loading zone, the front circle or a side entrance.
  • Bridges. If your move crosses the Intracoastal, drawbridge openings can add a few minutes here and there. It's not a big deal, but it's one reason we never promise exact arrival times to the minute.

Palm Aire and the west side

West of I-95, around Powerline Road and Atlantic Boulevard, you'll find Palm Aire with its golf courses and lots of condo and villa communities. Further west and north there are plenty of single-family homes and rental neighborhoods.

What to know:

  • Gated communities and guard gates. Make sure your movers are on the gate list for moving day, with the truck noted. Getting stuck at the gate first thing in the morning wastes time you're paying for.
  • Low-rise condos often mean stairs. Plenty of the older two- and three-story buildings have no elevator. Tell your mover how many flights, on both ends. It changes how long the job takes.
  • HOAs. Some communities have rules about when moving trucks can be there or where they can park. Check with the office before you book a day.

Single-family homes around town

Neighborhoods like Cresthaven and the areas north toward Sample Road and Copans Road are mostly houses with driveways. These are usually the easiest moves to load because we can back the truck right up to the door.

What to watch:

  • Garages and sheds. People forget the garage. Go out there before you get a quote and count what's actually going.
  • Driveway space. If you have a pod or a dumpster in the driveway, let us know so we can plan where the truck goes.

Moving within Pompano vs. moving in from out of town

We only do local moves, so if you're coming from another state, you'll need a long-distance company or a moving container to get your stuff here. Where we can help is on this end: unloading a container or rental truck, carrying everything in, and setting up beds. Our loading and unloading service covers that.

If you're moving within Pompano or from somewhere nearby, like Deerfield, Coconut Creek, Margate or Fort Lauderdale, that's exactly what we do every week.

Timing your Pompano move

  • Mornings are better. Afternoon thunderstorms are a real thing here most of the year. Starting early means we're usually done before the rain.
  • Snowbird season gets busy. From fall through spring, a lot of seasonal residents come and go, and condo buildings get more move requests. Book your elevator early.
  • Hurricane season. It runs June through November. If a storm is coming, plan around it. Our heat, rain and hurricane-season tips go into more detail.
  • End of the month is the busiest time for apartment moves. If your dates are flexible, mid-month is easier to schedule.

A quick Pompano moving checklist

  • Reserve the elevator and confirm move hours with your building or HOA, on both ends.
  • Get your movers on any gate list.
  • Find out where the truck can park and load.
  • Count your stairs and note any long walks from the truck to the door.
  • Check the forecast the week of the move.
  • Decide what's not coming before moving day, so you aren't paying to move it.
